Stela Vasileva
Composer: Milen Apostolov
Audio-visual installation
We sometimes mistakenly think that the visual and the musical art are opposites; they, however, share a common sign and this is the sound and light waves. In music, this phenomenon is called “colour hearing” and can be seen in some of the greatest composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov, Scriabin, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, etc. Behind this concept hides the pattern that each tone in the musical scale corresponds to a colour from the visible light range. If we have in mind the colour-hearing, we can more easily see how a certain tonality influences the listener or how a given colour changes the psychological and emotional state of the human. But what would happen if we become immersed through all our senses in a homogeneous audiovisual environment, would that give us strength, embarrass or confuse us? The piece by Stela Vasileva, created together with composer Milen Apostolov, creates exactly one such environment, in which everyone can see the sounds and hear the light. The very music is specially composed in such a manner that it can change its tonal colours according to the colours of the lights and their nuances. Vladiya Mihaylova
